The Garden Tree Appeal
"Mighty oaks from little acorns grow"
A couple of weeks ago we became aware that some of the big trees in the garden are diseased and need urgent tree works by professionals. The cost of these works is just over £5,500. The tree works were not budgeted for which means that we now have to raise £95,500 this year.
We are therefore with immediate effect starting an urgent Garden Tree Appeal to raise £5,500.
You may wonder why you should be concerned with the state of the garden. This is because it is BHCA's obligation to look after the garden, just like we look after the House and Hall. With an annual surplus of £4 in 2024-25 and a possible small loss in 2025-26 (we are awaiting the audited accounts) it has not been possible to set money aside for contingencies.
We are therefore appealing to Members and Friends to contribute with a small portion of what they save each term by benefitting from our 30% fee subsidy.
As an example, if a course is £200 per term and the student member has been coming for 3 years, that student member will have received a subsidy of almost £800. Many student members will have been coming to BHCA for over 10 years.
The Garden Tree Appeal "Mighty oaks from little acorns grow" will run until 22 December 2026.
If you are able to contribute with a few 'acorns' it is much appreciated by and helpful to the whole community. You can contribute online via BHCA’s donation button, or in person by coming to BHCA‘s Reception.
Tick the GiftAid box to enhance your donation by 25% at no cost to you.
