EFDC’ Community Fund
In June 2026 the Epping Forest District Council’s Community Fund offered over £7,000 in grant funding to BHCA for 40+ 2-hour sessions of Walk, Talk and Tea. This community programme provides opportunities to join gentle guided walks, meet local people, socialise, walk towards your weekly steps target in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, aiming to include a green area. After the walks the group shares hot/cold drinks either inside at BHCA or in our community garden. No barriers to participation. Join the walks in normal clothes and comfortable shoes.
Private Individual Funders - Ongoing
In 2026 we received private funding towards ‘HR & The working environment’, which aids the overall health and wellbeing of BHCA staff and site visitors.
In 2026 we received private funding towards our ‘Seated Dance’ courses.
In 2026 BHCA received over £4,000 from private funders giving regularly towards restricted projects.
Thanks to the support from Private Funders BHCA was able to continue to offer engaging and accessible session for all abilities, and to provide the best possible environment including initiatives such as the Gratitude Bench and plants for the garden.
Individual Private Funders - BHCA Spring Appeal 2026
In spring 2026 BHCA ran a Spring Appeal to raise funds for the ever-increasing Overheads. Generous contributions raised £1,700 helping BHCA to meet our annual fundraising target of £90,000+ and securing our ongoing financial sustainability.

Academy Heating Ltd
In 2026 it is the 8th year we receive support from Academy Heating Ltd.
One of BHCA’s trustees reached out to Academy Heating in 2018 for the first time. Our mission to be a cultural and community centre for Buckhurst Hill and adjacent areas resonated with them, and we established an ongoing relationship. Over the years Academy Heating have supported Bedford House by generously offering their labour as sponsorship to us, which has supported our ability to offer subsidised art, fitness and leisure courses to our community and helped to run our events, such as our regular art exhibitions, The Summer Show and Winter Craft Fairs. Over time Academy Heating has kindly sponsored Bedford House by over £2,000.
2025
Fundraising Concert
In October 2025 BHCA partnered with St. John’s CoE church in Buckhurst Hill to organise a fundraising Rock Choir Concert. The event raised £750 for each partner. We are grateful to the audience who attended the fundraising event, the Rock Choir and the staff and volunteers from both organising charities who helped out at the event. The funds raised went towards the ever-increasing Overheads of both the organising partners.
In autumn 2025 the Epping Forest Community Lottery Fund offered a grant of £300 towards BHCA’s Crafting sessions, which has enabled BHCA to continue offering weekly crafting sessions.

Individual Private Funders - BHCA Spring Appeal 2025 - CRM
In spring 2025 BHCA ran a Spring Appeal to raise funds for a CRM, a much-needed database to manage BHCA memberships and courses. Generous contributions raised £8,100 enabling BHCA to engage with an IT company and to purchase the first bespoke BHCA CRM. The CRM was implemented in September 2025.

In 2025 we received private funding towards ‘HR & The working environment’, which aids the overall health and wellbeing of BHCA staff and site visitors.

2024
Active Essex – Find Your Active
In October 2024 Active Essex provided grant funding from their Find Your Active fund of £2,900 for our Dance and Movement project which offered 10 sessions of Seated Dance, 10 sessions of Contemporary Dance, and 10 sessions of Tai Chi.
Thanks to the support from Active Essex, we were able to continue offering engaging and accessible sessions for all abilities.

In January 2024 Active Essex provided grant funding from their Find Your Active fund of £2,100 for 16 Seated Dance classes and 16 Tai Chi classes supporting our mission to keep the community active, healthy, and connected through movement. Thanks to the support from Active Essex, we were able to continue offering engaging and accessible sessions for all abilities.
2023
In December 2022 the DHSC part funded a defibrillator for the benefit of the local community. BHCA obtained the remaining funding from Essex County Council’s Locality Fund. It has since been instrumental in saving several lives.

In Autumn 2023, we received a grant of £1,000 from the EALC’s Essex Micro Grant, in support of our Bedford House Crafters enabling weekly sessions to run for 40 weeks.

In January 2023 BHCA’s dance and movement classes were proudly sponsored by Active Essex’s Find Your Active Fund, supporting our mission to keep the community active, healthy, and connected through movement. Active Essex supported 3 Sunday Dancercise Socials events, 11 Contemporary classes and 11 Seated Dance classes.
Thanks to the support by Active Essex, BHCA was able to continue offering engaging and accessible sessions for all abilities.

2022
In December 2022, we received a grant of £1,000 from the Essex Association of Local Councils through the Community Winter Warmth and Welcome Fund, in support of our ‘Craft and Cuppa’ sessions.

In the summer of 2022, the Flower Bed Project (to the front of BHCA) became a reality due to a generous donation from one of our members, a substantial top up by BHCA, and a team from Joseph Gibson Design who donated their time and expertise. Their hard work has added a stunning touch to our grounds, and we deeply appreciate their commitment and support in enhancing our space.

In 2022 Bedford House was grateful for the funding received from the Thriving Third Sector Fund managed by Essex Community Foundation to upgrade our IT infrastructure. This enabled us to engage with an outside IT support company to professionalise, establish ongoing IT support, and minimising exposure to cybercrime.

Garden Design - Spring Flower Fundraiser – Private funders
In spring 2022 BHCA ran a Spring Flower Fundraiser to raise funds for the Garden Design that inspired the way the garden looks today. With the help of additional funding from BHCA the funds raised enabled us to commission a Garden Design.
2021
EFDC’s Community Grant Aid
In 2021 Bedford House received funding from Epping Forest District Council’s Community Grant Aid scheme which made it possible for us to digitalise the Bewick Collection for the benefit of the wider community and also held a dedicated exhibition at BHCA for the benefit of the local community. BHCA is very grateful for EFDC’s grant making it possible to honour Vivian Bewick’s work and BHCA’s origins.

2020
Government Grants – Covid related
In the years 2020 to 2022 BHCA received funding to mitigate the impact of Covid on the organisation. The grants enabled BHCA to continue to pay staff wages as per Government guidelines and to survive financially.
2019
Vivian Bewick Art Collection
In December 2019 BHCA was donated a large art collection by the late Vivian Bewick.
BHCA was very fortunate to have received a gift of a collection of artworks from Robert Bewick and his sister Jane French, descendants of Elwyn Bewick, the brother of Vivian Bewick. The Bewick family, in particular Vivian and Elwyn, contributed to the establishing of Bedford House together with other artists in the 1940’s and 1950’s. Vivian was an art tutor for many years at Bedford House, and they were both practicing artists based within the Buckhurst Hill locality. The collection we were gifted also contained art works from several other artists. The collection was exhibited at Bedford House in 2021 and digitalised following the grant received from Epping Forest District Council in 2021. We are very grateful for the gift of the artworks and subsequently the grant from Epping Forest which gave us the opportunity to showcase a piece of history directly relevant to Bedford House and its origins.
