General FAQs:
What will I need to bring?
Most materials and equipment are provided, but please bring an overall or apron to protect your clothes, and plastic gloves to avoid getting the water-based printing ink on your hands. Also you will need to provide the paper you use to make your own prints.
Some additional equipment might be useful, once you have initially tried out techniques. Such as:
- Better quality cutting tools. Basic cutting tools are provided for cutting lino or wood but, if you decide to make lino or woodcuts, sharper tools are an advantage. Polystyrene is the easiest material to cut: for this you need a craft knife and cutting board (one is available in the class).
- Other useful items are: pencil, ruler, rubber, palette knife/knives, craft knife, tracing paper, a bench hanger, cutting mat. These items are available to borrow but not on a ‘one each’ basis.
Printmaking
with Anne Daniels
I believe that ‘With printmaking, it is possible to create images more inventive and unusual than those produced using pen and paintbrush’. Come along and prove me right!
Over the year, this course offers an introduction to a range of print making techniques, including:
- Monoprinting via drawing and with paint
- Relief printing from lino, polystyrene, and wood
- Drypoint
- Collograph with collage
- And the use of silkscreens with stencil masks
No previous knowledge or experience of printmaking is required, just a willingness to have a go, enjoy yourself and see what happens!
About the Tutor:
Anne studied art as a second career, having been denied the opportunity at school, and enjoyed the challenge of acquiring visual skills, starting with local art classes then through all available university courses in Fine Art and Printmaking (from BA to Prof.Doc.). She began teaching at Bedford House as professional practice for her Professional Doctorate and discovered her enthusiasm for teaching art.
