Portraiture needs careful observation of form and proportion to achieve a likeness – this workshop will show you how to draw faces with accuracy and expression.
The first part of the session will involve exercises in perception – how to look at faces in a new way. We will look at how to take photos for portrait drawing, and how through the basics of
drawing – shading, contrast, etc – we can capture both likeness and personality.
The second part will involve students putting all this into practice by drawing their chosen portrait, with the tutor’s guidance
What to bring:
– A3 sketch pad
– Chalk (not essential)
– Picture of someone you’d like
to draw (could be a selfportrait).
Tea and coffee facilities are available but please bring a packed lunch.
