An Introduction to Handmade Prints
This course offers both beginners and those experienced in other media the chance to try a variety of printmaking techniques, including
relief printing (including linocuts),
collograph and collage.
Experiment and enjoy! Fee includes some materials.
I believe that “With printmaking it is possible to create images more inventive and unusual than those produced using pen and paintbrush.” Come and prove me right…Anne Daniels
Over the year this course offers an introduction to a range of print techniques, including monoprinting via drawing and with paint; relief printing from lino, polystyrene and silver card; making silkscreens and printing using stencils; and collograph with collage.
No previous knowledge or experience of printmaking is required, just the wish to have a go, enjoy yourself, and see what happens. Please bring an overall or large apron.
Some additional equipment might be useful, once you have initially tried out techniques. Such as:
– Better quality cutting tools. Basic cutting tools are provided for cutting lino or wood but, if you decide to
make lino or woodcuts, sharper tools are an advantage. Polystyrene is the easiest material to cut: for this you
need a craft knife and cutting board (one is available in the class).
– Other useful items are: pencil, ruler, rubber, palette knife/knives, craft knife, tracing paper, a bench hanger, cutting mat. These items are available to borrow but not on a ‘one each’ basis.
